The professionals use it to check the insulin sensitivity and beta cell function. Assists health care specialists to manage Type 2 diabetes. Implements the HOMA2 model for estimation.
The HOMA Calculator is a tool for assessing the insulin sensitivity (%S) and beta cell function (%B), for professionals in the health care field. This program can assist you in managing Type 2 diabetes, but not by replacing a formal medical assessment. The calculator uses the HOMA2 model for its estimation of %S and %B. You have to input the values of the fasting patient's plasma glucose along with the values of the plasma RIA insulin. Instead of RIA insulin, values of C-peptide or fasting specific insulin can be used. The calculator is available in two forms. One is a stand-alone application, and the other can be embedded in an Excel spreadsheet. The embeded version can calculate and estimate the %S and %B of multiple individuals simultaneously. Apart from the excel spreadsheet, you can incorporate this calculator into other software packages, by using an Applications Programming Interface to package it as an Active X module or as a Macintosh Shared Library. If you are using a non-English version of Windows, the latest version of this program makes it possible for you to enter a coma instead of a period as a decimal point.
